CST Patrol 2.4 – The versatile tire for XC and AM adventures

The second CST model that was "put into service" for my bike is called Patrol and also has a width of 2.4, but with a less aggressive tread pattern than the Rock Hawk. Actually, let me say it directly – the Patrol largely resembles an XC tire, but the construction with additional casing protection and the large volume allow me to classify this variant of the model as suitable for AM/enduro bikes.
To start, let me quickly recall its main characteristics:
Size: 29x2.4 / 61-622
Weight: 942 grams
Price: 59.90 BGN
I couldn’t find definitive data, but what is certain is that the tire has a folding bead, EPS puncture protection, and is suitable for tubeless use. The casing is probably 60 tpi, and the tread here should also be dual compound.
Everything I wrote in the article about the Rock Hawk model regarding the scarce details from the manufacturer about the materials and technologies used applies here as well. The word “Nylon” on the tire sidewalls probably means that this polymer material is used in the rubber compound and/or the casing – likely to provide more strength and durability. The rubber compounds of the tread are not the softest on the market and are probably around 60a or 62a for the side knobs and 70a for the center, but this is just my assumption. As for the EPS protection, it probably refers to an additional layer of some puncture and tear-resistant material, similar to the EXO construction by Maxxis.
