Four years ago, the Sports Club DRAG revived one of the most famous road races in the Balkans. Its last edition was held more than ten years ago. This year, the race will take place on June 11, 2017, and the number of participants is expected to exceed previous years. For more information about this year's event, follow our page on Facebook.

Vitosha Uphill Challenge

The road race aims to promote active sports activities in road cycling and to motivate a wider range of people of all ages to participate. The race is intended both for professional cyclists and teams, as well as for amateurs who are ready to accept the challenge of climbing Vitosha by bike. Cycling enthusiasts can compete with professionals and measure their strength against them, thus not only proving to themselves that they can climb Vitosha by bike, but also getting to know and compete with the best athletes in this field. Mountain bike riders are also welcome.

Co-organizer of the “Climb of Vitosha” is the company Dolchini.

The race format involves a full ascent of the route from Boyana Residence to Zvezditsa Hut along the road. The race distance is 20 km and, as last year, it will be closed to motor vehicle traffic.

Last year, in 2016, the race was held for the third consecutive time. Niki Mihaylov, Sani Zhekova, Stoyko Sakaliev, and over 200 amateurs and professionals in cycling participated in the race. More than 15 Bulgarian clubs from across the country and participants from a total of 7 countries were there.

This year there will also be prizes. The prize fund for this year's edition will include shopping vouchers for DragZone and DOLCHINI stores (e-shop). There will also be additional prize vouchers for “Record Time,” “Youngest Finisher,” and “Oldest Finisher.”

The Climb of Vitosha marks the end of a long weekend of road cycling, which begins on 09.06 with the Dolchini Cup at the “Arena Armeec” Stadium and continues on 10.06 with the Drag Cup in Bozhurishte. Both races – criteriums – are open only to cycling clubs from Bulgaria and abroad, while the Climb of Vitosha also welcomes amateur cyclists. With this, Drag and Dolchini aim to create a traditional long weekend of road cycling.

More information regarding registration and participation conditions is available on the event page.
