CST BFT 2.25 – Grip and reliability for challenging terrains

Right in the middle of summer, I got to test the third of the four CST tires that Drag Zone provided me to try this season. The model name BFT stands for Big Fat Tire, which is probably related to the relatively large and massive treads of the protector (or maybe someone at the manufacturing company just came up with it that way). In any case, from the very beginning I shared that theoretically this tread pattern inspired the most confidence in me – perhaps because it is sufficiently close in density, size, and shape of the knobs to some of my favorite tires. Of course, this is not the only factor for good or bad product performance, so I still had to check its qualities in real conditions.
To start, let me quickly recall its main characteristics:
Size: 29x2.25 / 57-622
Weight: 948 grams
Price: 59.90 BGN
The casing has a weave density of 60 tpi and a puncture protection called EPS. The bead is foldable, and the tread is dual compound. The tire is suitable for tubeless use.
From the very beginning, I was annoyed that the tire is size 2.25 and not 2.4. The CST catalog also lists the second size, and by the end of 2022 it should appear on our market as well, but for now, the BFT is only available in 2.25 width, and for this type of tread pattern, the larger version would be quite appropriate as a front tire.
