The bicycle saddle manufacturing company Selle SMP was founded after the end of World War II, a period considered the golden years of cycling in Italy. The reason for this is that before motorization, almost the entire country at that time used the bicycle as the main means of transportation.

To this day, Selle SMP holds nearly 25% of the market share for bicycle saddle production in Italy, while the remaining 75% of the company’s products have managed to establish themselves in foreign markets. This is no coincidence. The company’s success and long-term sustainability are supported by a series of innovations and research in the field of injection molding of technical plastic under pressure, as well as the use of machines for injecting polyurethane foam (PU) for bicycle saddles, which is an extremely complex process requiring not only significant investments but also professionalism and dedication to the work. A strong emphasis in this process is placed on environmental care, working in accordance with the current legislation in this area, as well as taking strict measures to comply with all environmental standards in the production of bicycle saddles. The Selle SMP product range is tested and complies with national and international standards regarding safety requirements for bicycles and their components, including saddles.

As a result of numerous studies, the company decided to divide the saddle into five target zones to achieve the best result in its production. The zones are as follows:

Central channel, which prevents injury to the soft muscles in the pelvic area that close the cavity of the small pelvis.

The tip of the saddle or “Eagle Beak,” designed to adapt to the cyclist even in an extremely low handlebar position on the bicycle.

Rear part, “RearDepression,” protects the tailbone from bruises and contusions.

Seat area, developed depending on the cyclist’s anatomical features in various shapes, with two independent seating sectors.

Length of the saddle rails. It offers the widest adjustment for setting the saddle position to achieve maximum comfort for every cyclist.

Following this concept, Selle SMP successfully manufactures saddles for disciplines ranging from Triathlon, through professional cycling, to purely recreational saddles for touring.
