The history of Shimano begins back in 1921 on 40 sq.m. of the remains of a destroyed factory for the production of celluloid - the first plastic alloy. The company was founded by Shozaburo Shimano and from its inception, it has been focused on the production of bicycle spare parts, with the initial focus mainly on perhaps the most important component of its time and requiring the greatest technological difficulty in manufacturing, the freewheel or free sprocket. Over time, with the rapid evolution of bicycles and the need to improve bike parts, Shimano began producing every component of the bicycle's drive system with uncompromising quality, which quickly made them a leader in the global market. A testament to the company's rapid progress was the start, in 1956, of production of the first external gear shifting mechanism, and a year later, the first hubs with three internal speeds, which became a revolutionary product on the American market in 1961. An iconic product for Shimano is the DURA-ACE series of drive components, which have been on the market for 40 years and provide cyclists with irreplaceable comfort when handling gears and easier pedaling.

In the spirit of a developing society and in response to the growing demand for environmental protection solutions, bicycles are becoming an increasingly preferred means of transport, which in turn creates greater demand for bicycle components from the broad consumer base. That is why Shimano undertakes the production and supply of high-quality and efficient spare parts for all the diverse bicycle models produced worldwide, covering a wide range of cyclists from amateurs to professional racers.

In the dynamic world of bicycles, the company manages to refine its design, create easy-to-use functions for bike components, and always stay one step ahead of the imagination of its users. With this policy, the company hopes to attract more environmental enthusiasts to use bicycles for transportation, thereby contributing to the preservation of our beautiful nature.
