The history of the company is laid by the pioneering brothers Léon and Laurent Vielle in the distant year 1889, when the company was only engaged in nickel plating of steel products. Shortly after its establishment, a bold decision was made for the time to start the production of bicycle components.

The company's innovations began in 1933 with the manufacture and launch of the first-ever pedal car for children. A year later, spokes with revolutionary technology were introduced to the market, absorbing vibrations and stress by placing "caps" at the lower and upper parts of the spoke, made of Duralumin, which significantly reduces the weight of the spokes and the risk of deformation or breakage. They were almost twice as light as steel spokes and weighed only 720g per set. The spokes were secretly tested in the Tour de France by Antonin Magne, who won the race.

In the same year, the company also released the first-ever full fenders that cover the entire upper length of the tire and prevent any splashing of water and mud in rainy weather.

The French manufacturer Mavic has over the years become synonymous with trust, innovation, and creativity in the cycling scene. The company has found its place in the road cycling hall of fame with the production of a number of iconic and high-quality products, some of which include the 500 series hubs from 1975, as well as the first-ever double-walled rims, which engraved the company's name in golden letters in the hall of fame, the entry into the MTB market in 1983, and many other innovative achievements to this day.
